As we make our way through another day in this rapidly changing time, we at MHiM wanted to let you know that all of us are thinking of you and continue to be here for your questions and suggestions.
Spread out around the world, many of you are in quarantine, self-quarantine, or “shelter-in-place,” while others are carrying on in severely altered ways. In New York where I live, a shelter-in-place policy is coming any day, requiring people to stay home other than to get food, medical care or other necessities. In the hope of flattening the curve. These are times of confusion, changed habits, and need for community.
This is not another post advising you to maintain social distancing and to follow other simple measures to prevent COVID-19 transmission. I am sure that you know to seek out trusted information about the virus. One suggestions is to check the WHO website as they are making sure the public is updated daily on virus developments.
Now, how does COVID-19 affect YAM? Our advice is to seize YAM activities, or to move them outdoors. We would love to hear from you what you think is best in this time when our youth communities need us to be there for them. Please be in touch and tell us how you are tackling COVID-19 locally and how you think the YAM community can play a part in this? Send us an email!
For those stuck at home, here is a nice list of ideas of things to do at home with kids. There are many similar resources popping up around the internet and I know many of us are a bit overwhelmed with the amount of emails we are getting with similar information. I urge you to find out about local mutual aid efforts in your area that facilitate exchange of resources and services for mutual benefit. We need to stand by our most vulnerable in this time of need.
In community,
Camilla, creator of YAM
