Between October 25th-26th, the core team of MHiM had the privilege of attending the National Suicide Prevention Conference, which took place in Östersund, Sweden. It was an inspiring event, bringing together individuals dedicated to preventing suicide in their communities and in Sweden as a whole.
Connecting with others about YAM
The conference offered a unique opportunity for us to connect with people actively involved in the local YAM implementation in their respective municipalities and regions. It’s always fulfilling to share experiences and insights with those who are on the frontlines of this work. We learned a lot from their experiences and dedication to suicide prevention.
Learning from others in the same field
The YAM program was part of a packed conference agenda. We learned about many other aspects in suicide prevention in practice. Such as examples of collaboration from municipalities across Sweden , and how governmental incentives have influenced suicide prevention efforts.
One of the highlights of the conference was meeting new people interested in learning more about the YAM program. We had the pleasure of engaging in discussion and sharing some of our experiences with them, sparking a sense of optimism about the potential for expanding YAM’s reach.
A rewarding experience
Overall, the conference was a rewarding experience. It served as a reminder of the importance of coming together as a community to address mental health generally and suicide prevention specifically. We look forward to continued collaboration with our peers in this field.
