Esther Perel is a world-renowned psychotherapist and all-around awesome person. She has so much wisdom about psychology and well-being, and as people who work with youth and mental health, her work is incredibly relevant to the YAM community. Her podcasts Where Should We Begin and How’s Work are bursting with insights and fascinating topics exploring mental health, personal and professional relationships, and being our best selves.
So if there’s anyone we can listen to to help us get through the pandemic, it’s her! Thankfully, Buzzfeed recently did an interview with her in which she shares thoughts, ideas, tips and encouragements for helping us get through the “pandemic wall” at work.
A few key takeaways are:
- When we feel isolated in our work, “One of the best things we can do is continue to try to connect with others.“
- Since we don’t have as clear boundaries between our work life and our home life, “Perel advises creating routines, rituals, and boundaries in order to deliberately recreate and mimic the structure we are normally used to.”
- Depending on our home culture, we might have been raised to be independent and autonomous. But “Right now, Perel says, is a time for interdependence.“
